In the heart of Tromsø, where Arctic nature meets urban energy, lies The Dock – a new signature hotel from Scandic with sweeping fjord views and an interior where Nordic design meets the drama of the surrounding landscape.
The hotel comprises 13 floors, totaling 17,300 m², and features 305 rooms along with eight conference spaces. Metropolis Arkitekter is responsible forthe interior architecture.
A tailored lighting concept for the entire hotel
Together with Metropolis Arkitekter, we developed a complete lighting concept, from design and prototyping to final installation. The aim was to create a lighting solution that enhances the architecture, connects the different spaces, and gives guests a cohesive experience throughout the hotel.
Luminaires designed for every space
In the hotel rooms, we supplied custom-designed wall lights, pendants, and floor lamps that harmonize with the tactile materials and color palette of the interiors. Bathrooms are equipped with dedicated mirror lighting, while in corridors and public areas, directional wall and ceiling fixtures create visual continuity and clear orientation.
Iconic curved shades – the hotel’s focal point
In the restaurant and lounge areas, large curved pendants create a balanced, welcoming light that adds rhythm and character to the space. With their pure form and Scandinavian simplicity, they merge seamlessly with the interior and become a natural part of the architectural whole.
All luminaires are produced in our factory in Varberg, Sweden, with a focus on precision, quality, and Scandinavian craftsmanship. The combination of technical expertise and sustainable production ensures lighting that not only feels right — but endures over time.
Lighting that unifies the entire hotel
In addition to the curved pendants, glass pendants in two sizes create a soft, dynamic interplay of light that reinforces the rhythm of the restaurant and lounge areas. Two large Porto pendants act as sculptural focal points, while ceiling rope installations and Pensile fixtures – in both wall and table versions – contribute to a warm and cohesive atmosphere throughout the space.
Light in dialogue with architecture
Metropolis Arkitekter have created an interior defined by warm materials, strong contrasts, and references to Tromsø’s natural landscape. Here, light plays an active role – highlighting textures, defining functions, and creating spatial balance.
Thanks to close collaboration with the architects and our in-house production in Sweden, each lighting scheme was tailored to the specific requirements of the room. Streamlined decision-making and rigorous quality assurance ensured a seamless process from concept to final installation.
Sustainable design from Varberg to Tromsø
All luminaires are designed, developed, and manufactured in our ISO-certified factory in Varberg. By combining local craftsmanship, technical precision, and sustainable production, we create lighting solutions that stand the test of time – both aesthetically and functionally.
A complete experience in light
The Dock 69°39 by Scandic represents a new generation of hotels where light, architecture, and nature come together in a unified expression. We are proud to have delivered a lighting solution that elevates both the overall experience and the finerdetails – built on Scandinavian design sensibility, quality, and long-term sustainability.
